Dance Auditions & Open Casting Calls

Dancer's foot

We post all the details of current dance auditions and open casting calls here as soon as we have them.

First, we have some general tips for dance audition success, some of which are obvious and just reminders and some of which could make the difference between getting a call back and never hearing from the casting team again...

So if you're serious about a career in dance, read them now...

Our tips for winning the part at your dance audition:-

  • Do what you've been asked / rehearsed to do - casting directors can get really annoyed if you suddenly announce that you're going to do something completely different in the vain hope that it will get you noticed.  You'll get noticed all right, but for all the wrong reasons, so fight the temptation to 'stand out'.  If you've been asked to do a specific routine to a specific piece of music, just do that

  • However, if you've been asked to prepare a routine of your own choosing and to a music track that you can pick, please don't perform a routine that you've copied directly from a well known star.  Casting directors get very bored when, for the twentieth time that day, somebody stands in front of them and announces "I'm going to do my interpretation of Beyonce's Single Ladies".  They'll be shouting "NEXT!" before you've done the first three steps.  Make sure you choose a track that's not massively well known and choreograph your own original routine to it
  • Always turn up on time, well organized and with all the dancewear / shoes that you've been specifically asked to bring

  • It's a good idea to also bring several spare pairs of socks and shoes (if you have them)

  • Make sure you've got sensible warm jogging pants and a sweatshirt to put on over your dance gear - there's usually a lot of hanging about at auditions and if you warm up and then get delayed, you'll need to cover up for a while

  • Bananas, energy bars and loads of water are a must in your kit bag - not all dance auditions provide supplies so make sure you've got enough of your own to keep your energy levels up and keep well hydrated

  • And remember, casting directors know exactly what they are looking for and know it when they see it.  If you don't get called back, don't get disheartened.  Just keep going, keep your body in tip-top condition and keep choregraphing your own stuff.
