Latin dancing is great! It's fun, it's passionate and most importantly it's easy to learn.
Don't think that you need a great sense of rhythm and a high level of fitness for this, you really don't. I've taught people who have struggled rhythmically, who have struggled with balance, who have struggled with coordination.
But let me tell you, I've given every one of them a sense of satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. They've all walked away knowing a few steps and proud that they can hold their head high on the dance floor.
And as for fitness, the more you dance, the fitter you'll get! So come on, give it a try!
If you're in a social situation where people are dancing, wouldn't it be better to get up and do a few moves with confidence, rather than hugging the walls, hoping nobody notices you? And trust me, you do only need to know a very few basic steps to get by.
If you need a little extra encouragement, here are few thoughts from me...
But what about dancing with a partner? When you
go to a live dance class, you might think that you need to take a
partner with you. But you know, you really don't have to; any good
class will rotate the students so you get to dance with lots of
different people which helps you learn and improve. I know it can be a
bit scary to go to a class for the first time, but it really doesn't
need to be. Just remember that everyone else there is probably new to
it too, and that everyone is there to learn how to dance, just the same
So which style would you like to learn? They're all great, but I cover two of my favorites in this guide and on my DVD.
The Swing evolved out of American rock 'n' roll and consists of a triple time step. Don't worry - it's really easy to pick up at the beginner level. And it's worth it - it's sexy, it's rocky, it's down and dirty! You're going to love it.
The Cha Cha comes from Cuba originally. It evolved from the dance of rumba which is a dance of passion and love, into a quick, cheeky, flirtatious, snappy dance. This is a great dance in which to get used to the timings and counting patterns of Latin dancing. It's easy. Just watch the clip below...
I really hope that's inspired you to take the rest of the class. Latin dancing is the best feeling in the world and I really hope you give it a try.
And of course, there's no easier way to try than in the privacy and comfort of your own home. So give me a chance to teach you and I'll get you dancing in no time!
